NJ Lawmakers Plan to Put Legalization on 2020 Ballot

New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney and Senate Judiciary Chairman Nicholas Scutari announced today they were moving away from their previous plans to approve legislation to end the state’s failed prohibition on marijuana this year in the state legislature and are instead planning to put a question regarding a constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana before state voters during the 2020 election.

Study: Terminology Doesn’t Influence Public’s Perception of Cannabis

Use of the term ‘cannabis’ instead of ‘marijuana’ does not influence the public’s perception of the plant or their attitudes, according to data published in the journal PLOS One. Investigators concluded: “We find no support for the notion that changing the name of the drug from ‘marijuana’ to ‘cannabis’ affects public opinion on the drug or the policies governing it.”
